Recent Commercial Projects by Colbran & Wingrove

Take a look through our project gallery below for ideas, inspiration and to find out more about our work in commercial buildings throughout East Sussex and the Brighton & Hove area.

Roedean School Refurbishment

Roedean School has appointed Colbran & Wingrove for wide-ranging building and maintenance work for several years, including recent work as part of the School’s £9m makeover.

  • The work has seen our team refurbish a Common Room, kitchen and bathrooms as part of the School’s £9m refurbishment programme.
  • The Common Room now benefits from hardwearing new grey contract flooring which ties in with the contemporary Scandinavian-inspired furniture and fittings.
  • In a series of bathrooms, we removed old sanitaryware, cubicles and tiling and formed new stud walls to house shower pods and cubicles.
  • Semi-recessed vanity units, LED lighting and large mirrors set into the wall tiles with aluminium edging make for highly functional facilities. Stainless steel column radiators and different tiling formats add to the design creating a look that wouldn’t be out of place in a hotel.
  • Similarly, the kitchen required a complete strip-out by Colbran & Wingrove. Following alterations to the plumbing and electrics by our team, we installed new kitchen units as specified, along with new floor and wall tiles and lighting.

May 2018

Birchwood Ford recently appointed Colbran & Wingrove to renovate redundant office space and create a bright new staff room at their Eastbourne showroom.

  • The project has transformed an internal room which can now be accessed by staff from the neighbouring workshop. An original opening from the showroom has been blocked up.
  • The space has also been zoned into two distinct areas with the extension of an existing dividing wall. Now protruding further, it allows for an improved layout with tables and chairs in the newly fitted kitchen and sofas in a separate but connected lounge area.
  • Our team managed all aspects of the project which also included an overhaul of the existing suspended ceiling to replace damaged or missing tiles, plus improved lighting, new safety flooring, the installation of a new curtain heater and all the associated electrical and plumbing works.

June 2017

A great reveal this month as the scaffolding came down at Brewers Head Offices following external re-decorating and refurbishment work by Colbran & Wingrove.

  • We were appointed to clear and clean the gutters, downpipes and gullies, carry out repairs to the render and re-paint the exterior walls and sash windows at the company’s premises in Eastbourne, East Sussex.
  • Proud to be the decorator of choice for ‘the Decorator’s Choice’.

November 2016

Eastbourne builders Colbran & Wingrove were appointed by Eastbourne Chamber of Commerce to manage work at the Chamber’s offices in Hyde Gardens.

    • Christina Ewbank, Chief Executive commented “We’re thrilled to unveil brighter, smarter Eastbourne UnLtd Chamber of Commerce premises following work by Eastbourne builders Colbran & Wingrove who won a competitive tender for the contract. We’re delighted with the results and the service Colbran & Wingrove extended and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.”
    • This project included the redecoration of the front and rear facades of the building by our team. Rendering repairs around the building by Colbran & Wingrove preceded re-decorating with a bold colour scheme using ‘Soft Truffle’. This helps make the building stand out from its neighbours, yet remains in keeping with the look of the Gardens which date back to the turn of the century and typify Eastbourne’s elegant Victorian heritage. (You can read more about choosing exterior paint colours for building projects here).
    • Pre-survey works revealed asbestos in parts of the portico structure which was carefully removed by a licensed contractor and Eastbourne roofing company Clarke Roofing were appointed to manage repairs to the flat roofs and fire walls.
    • Final inspections were carried out with Christina Ewbank, Chief Executive of Eastbourne UnLtd, on the scaffold to enable her to view the completed works at close quarters.

Repurposed Building Provides New Parish Council Offices

Willingdon & Jevington Parish Council has transformed a former block of public conveniences at The Triangle in Willingdon.

    • Colbran & Wingrove were awarded the project to develop the building which now provides an office, meeting room, small refreshments/prep area and WC.
    • The addition of a small extension at the rear of the building has created a new WC for public use and a parking space has been incorporated next to the offices.
    • Led by local architect Peter Shoesmith, the scheme retained much of the footprint and look of the original building with a brick exterior and tile-hung roof. However, along with the reconfigured internal space it now benefits from contemporary new Anthracite grey aluminium windows and doors and features Solar PV panels.
    • The installation of Solar PV will allow the Parish Council to feed back into the grid creating potential to meet its own electricity requirements and gain income from any surplus.
    • Willingdon & Jevington Parish Council plan to move into the premises by 1st October.

Dental Surgery Extension in East Sussex

Garage conversion and extension to busy Practice.

  • With a busy, expanding Practice and an existing, underused triple garage space at their disposal, the solution for the Practice owners was obvious but presented some logistical considerations.
  • Colbran & Wingrove devised a schedule of works using evenings and weekends so that much of the building work could be carried out ‘out of hours’, allowing the Surgery to continue to operate without interruption.
  • Converting the garage space and linking it back into the main building has resulted in a new purpose-designed office and staffroom space. We also carried out various further works to the main building, including floor sanding and polishing, external redecorations and repairs, internal redecorations and maintenance items such as attendance works on a specialist surgery fitting company.

School Refurbishment & Redecoration in Eastbourne

Exterior works to two school buildings in a conservation area.

  • This contract demanded the varied skills of our experienced team to carry out structural fabric repairs to two school buildings, including chimney re-builds, roof repairs, an overhaul and repair work to all sliding sash windows, along with natural stone replacement and repairs, plus complete redecoration to the exteriors.
  • It also required careful planning and project management so that our team were able to complete the contract in such a way so as to mitigate the impact of the works on the school. Scheduling the works to complete as quickly as possible whilst also respecting the daily operation of the school and need for privacy and quiet at times was important. We also balanced the demands of operating in a busy town setting with limited parking and access.
