Dreamy New Bedroom

Trailing orchids and Hummingbirds adorn this newly formed bedroom and dressing room which has followed the broken-plan design principle.

Knocking two rooms into one larger open plan space has become increasingly popular in homes over recent years. However, it isn't the only or necessarily always the best option when you're re-configuring a layout.

Rather than completely removing the internal wall between these two bedrooms, just a section of wall between two further built-in cupboards has been removed. Making it double the width of a traditional doorway opening has ensured the room now feels like one cohesive space.

The resulting symmetry is also as pleasing on the eye as it is functional. The two returns from the original built-in cupboards have been kept in place and provide space for new furniture on both sides.

Bespoke drawer units and freestanding dressing table have been incorporated within the bedroom, whilst the dressing room features a run of bespoke wardrobes either side. With custom-designed sections for rails and shelving on both sides and space-saving sliding doors, the dressing room offers ample storage.

Wall panels along one wall in a vibrant teal and pink colour way make a striking statement and punctuate the otherwise calm space, whilst a gentle blue-green colour has been picked out for the rest of the bedroom and dressing room with various pieces of freestanding furniture and soft furnishings in a soft pink accent colour.

A neutral carpet underpins the whole scheme and has been laid in a single piece without a join.

Project by Colbran & Wingrove, including the demolition and build of new stud walls, carpentry work to create custom-built drawers and wardrobes and all interior decorating.
