Planning a New Patio

We have created this smart new outdoor space by modifying, extending and renewing an original patio.

When planning a new patio, it's as important to consider space as it is looks. Whilst the original patio spanned the width of the property, there was scope to increase its footprint deeper into the garden. The homeowners were also tired of the square slabs which were dated and heavily weathered. Failing mortar joints meanwhile gave opportunity for weeds to poke through.

Gaining nearly a metre by extending out from one side of the steps has better balanced the proportions of the patio. It has also created a more usable space.

The homeowners chose sandstone silver grey slabs by Bradstone to complete it. With natural tonal variations and a gently riven texture, they have transformed its look. It now better complements the property's brickwork and the use of a black brick to top the newly formed retaining wall has added a lovely contrasting finish.

Our team managed every aspect of the project, including the removal of the original retaining wall and construction with a new wall, repointing of the existing wall to the left of the patio, the excavation of new foundations for the extended area, installation of surface water drainage channels and lighting, and the work to lay the new and point the new slabs.
